My demo is about -13% since mid-sep...so I would love to see what setting fxozgirl is using...perhaps is a minor tweak to the EA's param which I missed! I am using the demo2b setting by the way.

Guys, I have posted a few times here my Live account settings (I'm pretty sure Steve is also trading fairly similar settings live as well)...but here you go again:

Settings are very conservative (this is my LIVE Cowboy Go Markets account), so it's not trading very often, therefore I have increased my lot size to compensate. I think the most trades I have had open at any one time has been 3.

A lot of people like to trade more actively and I get that...I was like that myself, however I'm trying to develop a strategy that will put real money in the bank for me...not necessarily feed my volume trading urges (been there and done that). It's been proven many times over you do not need to take a lot of trades to make money, we just have to manage the trades we do take to their maximum potential. I would rather have a real 10% in the bank from a handful of trades than be sitting on a drawdown from many trades.

MA Stack turned on - THIS IS KING!
No Stacking trades (although I may change that now the trailing SL/BE function is working correctly)
Half Close Enabled on - This is the 2nd most important setting IMO and has made a big difference in locking in profits
Also, I am still using v1y on my Live account, until I am confident that the most recent version of BASA is stable.

That's it...2 more profitable trades closed overnight, and a nzdusd buy trade currently in drawdown

All the demo's (currently trading with v2c) are ongoing research & development which I will be continuing to see if we can achieve a higher trading version which is consistently profitable.

Yep, that's the way, cherry pick the trades and if buying a currency, don't sell that currency in another trade.

Sorry Shelley - I did actually look through the thread again but must have missed the settings.

Could you clarify on the above please? The whole "stack" terminology is a little unclear at times as your original concept needed the 240/60 LWMA stacking in order but then Andy's 21/55 ema stacking came in to play as an additional filter.

I presume you actually mean Andy's 21/55ema stacking in addition to the default 60/240lwma but I would be grateful if you could confirm? The reason I am checking is that for a while you thought (as did I) that the 21/55ema stacking restriction on Main/Re-entry trades was possibly too restrictive but was good for stack trades, hence the change made to allow this to apply to Main/re-entry and/or stacked trades.

Thanks,
Dave.

Hi Dave,

Sorry if I was unclear...the original parameters remain intact including ensuring the 60lwma is the deciding factor on which direction the trade is placed.

RE: the MA stack, I am referring to Andy's filter for the 21 & 55 ma's which yes, I did think restricted a lot of trades, however what I observed was that the trades it did take almost always ended in profit and the MA stack filter also prevented a lot of bad trades that would have been taken if MA stack was turned off.

So I started thinking why do I want to take more trades when there's a much higher chance of having a loser, and this is where my brain finally registered that I don't actually need lots of trades to make money, I just need to capitalise on the winning trades I was getting.

I increased my lot size, made a few tweaks including setting half lots close to true and changing the Jumping stop to 40 pips and now I am achieving very steady results on a handful of trades a week. 10% increase in the last 5 weeks and not a losing trade since the end of August.

I did mention my settings previously in this post here http://www.stevehopwoodforex.com/phpBB3 ... 236#p76236

As mentioned in a post above I am continuing to test and hopeful that we may be able to come up with some parameters that trade more often and remain profitable, but really if I can achieve 10% growth in my account every 5 weeks I will be more than happy :D

Thanks Shelley - I totally agree with your sentiment re. taking fewer trades and 10% in 5 weeks being brilliant.

I read that post and still missed your live settings......I must be getting old. :(

Cheers,
Dave.

No problem Dave...I suspect there's more than a few of us who can try to change our mindset regarding our trading.

Also, those results have been achieved without any intervention at all, however I do keep an eye on it and I think the main thing moving forward that would get me intervening is when the 60lwma is riding along right next to the 240...if a trade triggered then, it would be pretty much a 50/50 gamble imo.

Hi Shelley,

This is my first post, i'm quietly learning my way around and i've been testing for 5 weeks now.
I came to the same conclusions regarding the MA filter.

I chose to turn on CSS and Zeljco also on a live account.

This is indeed a very conservative strategy and when you said that it remind me of a concept
a statistician called "non self weighing strategy".*

We poker players like to call this a tight and aggressive (lot size increased but still within 2 % of bankroll)approach.

*Mason Malmuth exposed this in a book called "Gambling theory and other topics".

i'm french so excuse poor phrasing.

Welcome to the thread Niani...

I'm glad you have taken the time to experiment with other settings and yes I completely agree, whilst I am increasing my lot sizes I am not exceeding sensible money management and if I was to have a run of losing trades I will still be able to trade another day (as Bob says).

Hmm, tight and aggressive...I like that :D
