But when I use the unified settings there are many trades that open and close in a matter of seconds, can some advanced traders tell me why! Or refere me to where this problem is discussed!

Mike has made an exellent user guide you will find it herehttp://www.stevehopwoodforex.com/phpBB3 ... start=1030, in this user guide you will too find raccomanded settings for the new version, as the settfiles from older versions may not be 100% compatibel with the actual one.

Mike has, indeed, done excellently. The guide is very helpful.

On page 11 of the guide, Mike has given instructions how to make .set files for different pairs via Excel. As it is can at times be a bit tedious going from PDF to Excel, in the attached V40a SETTINGS by Mike_i Excel file I have reproduced the setting given by Mike.

As Philippe, Tommaso, and Mike all use Global Prime, I assume the setting are appropriate for Global Prime. However, I am confused by two things. The settings as given in the aforementioned guide describe the:

• Broker/Criminal as "ECN=false"; and
• give "true" for "BrokerHasSundayCandle".

Global Prime is an ECN broker, and their Empty4 has no Sunday bar/candle after 22 September 2013. A clarification in the above matters will be greatly appreciated.

I have not been able to work copy-paste technique to make a loadable .set file at my end, and any further help in this regard will also be greatly appreciated. Also attached are (i) .txt, and (ii) .set files made by following the method given in the guide.

The V40a SETTINGS by Mike_i is a modification of the file I posted earlier (and was downloaded 3 times). Apologies to everyone.

It is always best to do own testing, and find parameters one is comfortable with.

So far I have not done any testing with version 40a and the settings given in Mike's guide. My plan is to do the tests tomorrow on Global Prime Empty4.

I do not know which Broker/Criminal you are using. But if you are doing the tests on Global Prime (which I recommend), please rest assure Global Prime is an ECN broker. Therefore, you should change the setting to TRUE.

If after the change in setting you still do not get any trades, please go to your Empty4 folder in the computer hard drive, then the experts folder, then logs folder, from where copy the log file with today's date, and post it here.

I see that this two values are wrong in your setfile, DeltaTimeLiveTrades and DeltaTimeHistoTrades, please set them to this values.
DeltaTimeLiveTrades=42300
DeltaTimeHistoTrades=14400
And make sure you have enough history dates for backtesting, and backtesting is very slow I don't raccomand it with Empty4 .
For the actual version it is best to set ECN in all cases to true, too with no ECN Brokers there will be no problems

When I setup the MM I wrote these exact numbers [from Mike's pdf] but they refuse to stay the same, so I changed them in the setfile after creating it. Now it started backtesting and took the 1st trade.

I'll keep backtesting then forward testing tomorrow. I'm doing this using GP and Mike's settings. I don't have forex tester so I'll stick to Empty4. it might backtest one year in 6 months for each pair!! whatever
