I think everyone who has donated should know about this! I was so happy when i've read it

My mom is doing great She is recovering pretty fast. I can't express in words how great is feels to see her cooking again, watching tv and smiling!

I am sorry to be late to reply. I rarely get a chance to be online.

Dear Forum, Donators, Friends,
roughly one year has passed since many generous members of this nice forum stepped up to help Akib alias Alpenkorps.
The last days i was able to get in contact with him. I also asked if i am allowed to update this thread with some news about him and his mom - He agreed.
So here you go:

Mail no.1:

I am so sorry for not being in touch. Last year was a turning point in my life, everything went upside down. I am still quite struggling with my life trying to survive, but that's okey. My mom is doing well, for all that matters most.
She is still under medical supervision, there were some post operation complications and then it was discovered that there are signs that the cancer wasn't properly removed and it may come back again. She recently went through two chemotherapy session (August and October) and she will be needing a few more. She was due to another session in this month but it got cancelled because of the after effects of chemo not going so well. Her next chemo will be January 04 if the blood results and other tests show she is ready for it. She is the toughest person I know and we are going to fight this.
Luckly I managed to get a medical loan from my bank based on my job with the embassy. Unfortunately it was a temporary employment and the ocr project endeded couple of months ago, so was my job. I can't say I am doing fine, but when I feel the most frustated, I think of the time when I was on the verge of losing the most valuable person in my life, facing a situation that no son should face ever, yet I survived that with help from some very kind people, people that I even never saw. That gives me strength, that tells me that whatever life throws at me I must keep fighting.

I remember and pray for you guys all the time. I hope someday I'll be able to find some grounds under my feet and I'll be back to fx. I terribly miss Steve's sarcasms, Garry's martingale debunking, Bob's trading systems and everyone of you.

Mail no.2:

Treatment for cancer is not really good at Bangladesh, not even close to international standards. I learned a lot about cancer treatments in last couple of years. I always took my mom to the Square hospital here at Dhaka, its the best hospital we got, there is also Apollo Hospital which is exclusively for rich people! Square hospital is good, they did a good job removing the main tumor. I knew there will always be the chances for the cancer to come back and spread, I can't blame the doctors for it, its the deadliest disease we are fighting against. However post operation Chemotherapy here is not working well. After the second Chemo, my mom became very sick, nausea, very high fever, vomiting and headaches. They had to push the third Chemo session back after a blood test came negetive. One of the Doctor suggested me to take her to India, prefferably Madras for an extended checkup and rest of the Chemos.

I don't think its going to be possible, quite frankly I am not sure how I am going to pay for the next Chemo, taking her to India is not an option. I am still hunting for a job, meanwhile working at a shop. The bank loan that saved me so far is now becoming a solid pressure, I am due two installments. I moved from Dhaka city to over the river area where rent is quite low, but nothing is working. Sometimes I don't understand Gods plan, I don't know why he would test us in ways that we don't even have a remote chance to pass. May be God will show me a way, what I have learned so far is God works in the most unexpected form you can think of.

It will be great if you want to update the guys at Steve's. All these months, I wanted to do it myself, I thought I would be able to recover the situation and go there to tell my friends that Hey guys, I am back and I am doing great. See how you changed my life, how you saved me from sinking and now I am floting again.

I guess that day is yet to come, but I promise I'll fight to the last to make it happen.

I have to say that i consider Akib as a really good friend of mine. Although i have never seen him or spoke to him at phone. It was a very intensive experience for me to help someone i really don`t know in person.
