A COMPLETE NEWBIE

WARNING A COMPLETE NEWBIE QUESTION.

First of all I just want to say thank you Bob, Steve and all the regular contributors to this wonderful system. I have just been consuming as much as I can over the past couple of months and I had hoped to start practicing now. I have an issue however. I have downloaded what I believe are the latest indicators,scripts, profiles etc (from 10.4 10.5 update 5.19.13). I have followed the instructions in Go to my computer and open it.pdf. When I restart my Empty4 and select 104 from profiles, all the charts load and default to 4H and then all display 'Waiting for update'. I went to work and came back and still the same issue. I have restarted Empty4 and my laptop several times and still I get the same issue. I can still go back to my default profile so I am assuming I am doing something very silly. My broker is Alpari UK. I am on Empty4 4, build 509. I have been through the whole 10.4 for dummies forum but I seem to be the first one not to be able to even get started. I am hugely embarrassed, however I have no choice but to ask as I am keen to get started. Many thanks in advance for anyone who can help.

Probably you did the same thing I did (and I am no newbie, so don't be embarrassed): you forgot that the profile uses Bob's symbols, not yours. So you loaded up the profile and it tried to use the symbols Bob uses -- which if I'm not mistaken are XXXYYYm. If your Alpari UK symbols don't have "m" at the end, Empty4 won't know what to do with those symbols.

Solution: fix the profile. You can do this either by manually changing the symbol in each chart and then re-saving the profile, or edit the *.chr files and re-apply the profile. You might want to check the templates too.

Thank you Gary. I can see that all the charts have an 'm' on the symbol, so that makes a lot of sense. I did manage to just apply the template on other charts in my default profile and it worked so this should fix it. Thanks again.
