Hi, dudest

Very promissing EA! I´ve been trading manually for some time with TMA bands and Sliphod´s SR indi, so, although gold is strange to me, I feel like at home.

One little humble observation after my experience with TMA bands:

Default lenght of the band is 56, but in lower TF as 15M I have always had better results with 34, or even 20 (as Bob suggested, if I´m not wrong, in and old FF thread, to minimize the repainting).

Congratulations for the EA and waiting for the markets to start the test.

Cheers.

Hallo zentauro!, thanks for the helpful feedback.

Your suggestion is worth looking into, I'm setting up some tests to compare.

Cheers!

PS: Does anyone have a decent Walk-Forward Analysis tool for Empty4 EAs? Would really come in handy in situations like these...

@JCL: if you're reading this: how hard would it be to convert my EA ( + indi concepts ) to Zorro script in order to WFA?

@Gary: also if you're reading this: can TradeStation help here? :)

Thanks

Hey Dudest,

There's this... http://www.stevehopwoodforex.com/phpBB3 ... f=5&t=3309

You should also check out ProTrader3 for walk-forward testing. Just import the TMA_CG indi, and your EA (SpiderX mod, so you don't have to import LibCSS), and you can test on various timeframes, tick-counts, rangebars, etc.

Just wait until Fri or Sat before you d/l though, as the current backtester has some inconsistencies that will be repaired in the next update.

Have fun!

Radar, you just beat me - I was typing exactly the same thing. Anyone would think we were on the PT3 payroll :P

Dudest, I have found a couple of bugs with the EA. There is a lack of magicnumber checking in some sections - the missing TP code, and also the Jumping Stop. I found this out when I put it on an account with another EA running. It wanted to add TP's to my other positions (lucky I tried it on manual confirmation first).

So let me get this straight, your looking for a range only and then playing the outer boundaries of the range. I like it! If the range turns into a trend it stops trading. V cool - hope it all works out!

Is TMA+CG any different to the other TMA band indicators?

Cheers,
JK

Yes, it seems a good strategy only for ranging periods. It seems (if I´m not wrong) that the EA uses the slope of the band as a non trade filter (strong trend=no trade). We´ll see if it will work. In manual trading I´ve always had problems with the slope, as it repaints and it is always too late when it appears. My personal trick with TMA bands to know if price is trending or ranging is this: I add an Ichimoku (default settings) to the chart. If the cloud (kumo) is inside the band price is ranging, it the band leaves the kumo price is trending. Kumo is by far more reliable and easier to spot than the slope.

I have not found too much information about TMA+CG. It seems CG refers to Center of Gravity (another big repainter) and could be a mix.

Hey Radar!

Thanks for the links

Actually, I already checked out Darwin's open-source WFA tool, and found quite a few bugs ( it was the inital version ). Feedback was given in another forum and I hope he will get to fix them and I can try again.

I will definitely check out ProTrader 3 end of this week after the backtester is fixed, thanks for the heads up!

Cheers
