Re: Bob and Shelley Again
His 27% DD isn't current, it's the worst DD during the test. He ran it up to about $15k, then down to about $11k. Then up to $17k, down to $14k. $11k/$15k = 73%, which is a 27% DD. He's currently in an 18% DD from his maximum profit level, but even with that DD he still has 43% gain at the end of the test. Not terribly bad for about 27 days of trading (!!!).
So it's a bit of a bumpy ride, with good-sized DDs, but the trend looks good. You could reduce the DDs if you're willing to accept less return -- and you could lower it a good bit from 30%/month and still do quite well!!
It looks like you're risking about 3% per trade? I believe your Kelly value is about 0.35, meaning 3% risk is only Kelly/10 or so. That's fairly conservative. But you could risk less and smooth out the roller-coaster a bit.

Scary so far on the hour chart. Although fchaman's results were very initially promising on the hour.
Mind you most ea's struggled last month.
Going to run this on the 4H and see what happens. Thanks fxozgirl and Steve for your efforts

Re: Bob and Shelley Again
Not giving up on the hour chart yet !!
I have had not too disastrous results at all running the following on a live account.
1) Very low risk per trade - As BASA trades far more often on the 1hr chart, the amount of risk per trade needs to be far lower, as periods of ranging could draw the account down to a scary level.
2) 1.5x ATR stop loss. TP's manually set equivalent to 2 x Daily ATR value. Stacking of trades disabled. BE points set manually according to volatility of pairs with BE profit level from +2 - +10. BE disabled for yen pairs. Nice wide jumping stop equivalent to Daily ATR less 20%.
These settings seem to be more suitable to the 1 hour chart and although I am in the red overall this month, there is not much in it really, plus I currently have 3 pairs almost 3/4s of the way to their TP's.
I have seen numerous SL's hit, untold BE+2 - 10, 3 full TP's hit, and if current trades do carry on to TP on Monday, I am nicely in profit for the month for BASA 1 hour - Shame my manual trading has not seen such 'good' results !!
Thank you Shelley and Steve and all those that have contributed
I hope this summary of what I have done, can help us to improve suitable settings for what is a great strategy and I am sure that in better trading conditions, we will be laughing all the way to the bank.

Re: Bob and Shelley Again
Ok - no doubt: it may work on H1 perhaps. But comparing all this with the original H4 method: is it worth risking much more ? Do we get more gains with H1 finally ? I would prefer a "boring" but more stressfree trading with the H4 strategy/BASA-EA getting the same profits in the end .... :hi:

Re: Bob and Shelley Again
I have finally had a chance to sit down and analyse BASA's results to the end of the year and now to the end of January.
For those who are not aware, I have been trading BASA live since the last week of August 2013 on Cowboy Go Markets account on 4 hour charts.
BASA in December was down at the start of the month and headed for it's worst month since I started it, however it rallied towards the end of the month.
Total end of year results for BASA was an account increase of 13.69%, so a little down on my goal of 5% but still positive.
January didn't see much trading for the first 2 weeks and what trades taken were losers, fortunately again BASA rallied towards the end of January to finish up 1.09% (this should have been over 2% due to me inadvertently have 2 of the same charts open when trades were taken and which in turn were stopped out
)
Live results of BASA to the end of January is 14.78%
I acknowledge the results are not outstanding, however I am extremely happy to get to this level of profit after 5 full months trading live without any manual interference and especially those results include the early days when the EA was still under development with a number of losing trades attributed to glitches at the time and I was still refining my settings.
Moving forward, I will be maintaining my strategy of trading BASA on my live account and will continue to post my results, probably on a monthly basis.
EDIT: Due to the impending update of Empty4 (apparantly tomorrow), I will be leaving BASA turned off until I see how Cowboy Go Markets (who have previously proven themselves incompetent) handle the update and how BASA is affected.

Only an idiot should leave their ea's running on a live account on Monday (Sunday night here in the UK), There has been plenty of warning here at shf.
Global Prime accounts should be unaffected. Heaven help the rest of you. Anyone still unaware of this, visit http://www.stevehopwoodforex.com/phpBB3 ... =28&t=3016
Don't blame me guys if you continually refuse to read the info I send you. All I can do is my best.

Read the effing manual, ok?
Afterprime is the official SHF broker. Read about them at https://www.stevehopwoodforex.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?p=175790#p175790.
I still suffer from OCCD. Good thing, really.
Anyone here feeling generous? My paypal account is always in the market for a tiny donation. pianodoodler@hotmail.com is the account.

Re: Bob and Shelley Again
Pretty shocking that none of my many brokers have warned me about this. With an email alert etc. I guess I'll need to switch off MPTM too.
BTW I am now running BASA live 4hr with OOTB settings at the account in my sig.

How many pairs are you running BASA on fxozgirl? I am assuming all except the eurchf?
