Somehow this is somewhat reminiscent of the MondayBreakout Strategy http://www.stevehopwoodforex.com/phpBB3 ... 158#p87158, except that this is applicable on a daily basis, while the MondayBreakout is a weekly basis.
Probably we can take some useful ideas there for later improvement.

Watch the default NewYorkSessionLengthHours input folks. I accidentally left it set at 24, not my intended 4.

BB drew and deleted the lines as expected today, and took trades correctly.

They were all losers, but at least the code appears to be correct - something of a miracle given that there was copy/pasting involved, and we all know where that usually leaves me.

I am setting up a couple more demos. One will have EveryTickMode set to false to force BB to wait for a candle close before sending a trade. The second will do away with the moving averages and simply trade following a close-of-candle breakout - that should generate a few trades.

Not optimistic that all this will lead anywhere, but we shall see.

I report with a certain amount of surprise that BB has been profitable on my demos this week.

3 demo accounts; all trading the majors and GJ; all M15; ootb apart from GmtOffset, EveryTickMode and UseMovingAverageFilter.

Demo 1, using the MA's and trading immediately the market exits the box:

2 open trades at a combined DD of 10 pips (in round numbers)

Demo 2, using the MA's and trading only at the open of a new candle:

2 open trades at a combined DD of 18 pips (in round numbers)

Demo 3, not using the MA's and trading only at the open of a new candle:

4 open trades at a combined DD of <1 pip, courtesy of a hugely successful GU buy.

Demo 3 is merely a box breakout and I am astonished it is profitable. We shall see what the future holds.

The code that manages the line deletion is not quite correct yet, but I think I know where the logic flaw lies and will try to fix it before Sunday night.

Hi Steve

If you recall in FF we did discuss Logical trader strategy by Mark Fisher. You were kind enough to write a EA which we used as an indicator for manual trading (http://www.forexfactory.com/showthread.php?t=285053).

For a quick refresher of the rules you can go to this two page article http://www.investopedia.com/articles/te ... 032404.asp.

I have been using your EA for the last 3 years mainly for spread betting of indices and some UK and US stocks with a certain criminal offering Empty4. During this time I have come to understand why Bob Fisher shares the strategy with a wide public audience. The reality is that the more people use a breakout strategy the higher is the chances of its success. IMHO using EDSL for direction with breakout strategy will result in a successful trading strategy. We tend to concentrate mainly on trade entry and not enough on exits. I always bear in mind the word of RolandRaygun in FF (i.e. exits are more important than entries).

hey steve any updates on the testing of this EA? sorry would test myself but my trading pc is maxed out (and then some) with Empty4 demos

I am still testing it, using the moving averages and trading the close of the M15. Doing ok and the testing is throwing up bloops in the coding, plus a few ideas for improvement. I will post an updated version soon.

Steve, I really like this EA

It's really nice to see the settings on the chart page easily. I also like the safety features ideas. Things are laid out pretty clear and I love that, on top of being a fairly simple EA too which is great for learning. Paying attention to swap is also good - this kind of thing is good for beginners to see; attention to detail is essential to avoid having a more typical long winning set of runs and then one big mistake wiping it all out.

In testing I've noticed that it can be a little(?) be susceptible to pins - when the price pins down or up it's just enough to place a trade but then the prices bounces right back.
I'm more of a swing trader in my heart rather than breakout so I'm probably not the best person to ask but one way to protect against it could be to look at the speed of a movement... or maybe how much churn in the volume?

Either way it's been profitable on EURCAD,USDCHF,EURUSD, all @M15 so congrats. Will have to keep an eye on it. It's nice to see some clean coding so I've sent a little tip to show my appreciation
