Gann Ribbon System

I realize the documentation has some dangling sentences and what not. I need to go back and mop them up. Soon I hope.

One little ditty I will be adding is the following. Any number multiplied by nine takes on all of the attributes of nine.

For instance. 9 x 8945 = 80505

Now lets multiply 80505 X 73012 = 5,877,831,060

Divides evenly by nine and 5+8+7+7+8+3+1+0+6+0 = 45

4+5 = 9

The week of March 14 2014.

This week has been dominated by risk-on trading. Meaning the commodities have been running hot all week as you can see from this look at the week. Friday may see a flight to safe haven currencies with an uncertain week end ahead and NFP next week. NFP can put a damper on volatility all next week but with the US economy better than expected it shouldn't. I call Fridays risk-off Fridays but you never know in Forex. Aud started its big run last week and it went through this week.

Hey Slowkey!!

Thanks for sharing.

I have read the information and set up my charts, and while I am a LONG way from fully understanding this, I can see that there is something VERY interesting here!

Amazed that there isn't more interest in your thread!!

I'm very much IN!!

Will be doing some studying over the weekend.

Cheers!!

Thanks Rob,
I am taking the Field of Dreams approach. Build it and they will come. That is an american baseball movie for you international traders.

There are many ribbon indicators out their designed by programmer extraordinaire Mladen who has about 17000 post at TSD (How do you do that). I know of no one except John and I who have built a system around the ribbons used like this. He was the original maker of a one minute system. I built the only 5 min - 240 version. At least Google has not turned up anything. Now what I actually think is that some smart people have done it but choose not to disseminate it in a forum like this.

I think the ribbons are a tool that is here to stay. They can be used to analyze price and time in any trading approach. In a system they can be predictive based on their volume, nine based averages and time period that somehow produces some general laws. The ribbons are named in honor of Gann but he lived way before the computer age.

As long as my cancer stays in remission I am here to support this thread and see it towards a total systematic approach. This thread will appeal to people who like to hear the answer to Why? I think it will gain participation in time because the ribbons are just that good.

Thanks for your participation.

So last week was a big week for commodities. Lets look at AUDUSD. So we see here about 5 weeks of a general uptrend but with some quite large retraces back past the 4 hour to the 240 average.
audusdmh4 trend 3.png
Lets look at the 30 minute to see how this would look like for an entry before the weekend.
audusdmh4 trend 4.png
Now on the 30 minute again on Monday.
audusdmh4 trend 3.png
The hour showing the support zone better on Monday. Also showing just how strong this week was to trade this pair. You can see the separation between the time periods giving a neat perspective. Look how far the hour pulls away from the 4 hour. There a possible return to the mean started on Friday. It will be interesting to see what happens on Monday.
audusdmh4 trend 2.png
A great week to enter based on a support pattern on the hour and ordered ribbons on the 30 minute. This and good CSS might be enough but volumes can keep you sane on those retraces to the 30 minute. There is not a whole lot to be concerned about here.

This is an exercise in intraday analysis of time periods and what should be traded.
Trade this stuff on the 1 minute Why? Pure agony
cadjpymm5 rough 1 min b.png
Five minute better and you can start to see where ribbons can help but take away the ribbons and trade this with lagging indicators is pretty rough if your goal is to get all those little mini roller coaster trades.

Now the 15 minute starts to show us how best to trade this.
cadjpymm5 rough 15 min c.png
Trading the right edge of the chart ... Not easy but use the tools the chart gives you.
cadjpymm5 rough 30 min f.png
You may get a better reflection of CSS on the 4 hour time period if not the hour. There is good timing on the 60 minute and 4 hour gives you strength of conviction to enter.

Hi Slowkey,

I have been looking at my charts with your gann indicators this weekend and I really like the look of the H1 charts ,

I will put it on a demo today and see how I get on at the hard right edge !!

Thanks for taking the time and effort to post this method.

Thank Lan,

When I finished the ribbons and realized that I had the behavior I had hoped for it was definitely a eureka moment. I had found the approach to trading that was for me very satisfying. I added CSS, Volume, Classic Pivots and Round Numbers to make a solid system that does not trade like a lagging indicator system.

Thanks for your participation ...

Doug
