By the by, although I was unimpressed initially by the bot's performance, it finished the week much better. I left the trades open that it took, to see what happened, and the week ended with a positive upl.

I shall add mptm with a breakeven next week, to stop winners going wrong.

Hell, you understand it a lot better than I do! I've barely been following the J16 thread at all. I just happened to pop in here and noticed the code that Shelley posted and highlighted, and I thought, waitaminnit... :D

Constructively spent minnit. Cheers.

Steve, re: TMHL trade, I haven't had any taken on my D1 (Main demo), but I also have the ea on a 4H demo so I can get some more signals and watch how the ea is trading and I have had a couple of tmhl trades on 4h.

It appears the ea is taking the trade when the open/close of consecutive candles are within 2 pips rather than the high/lo. It also took the trade in the 2nd candle rather than wait until the new candle. Please see chart below.

Also on pg 55 of the FF James16 thread there is some extra comments made by j16 about this type of trade...in particular:

Bar High/Lows do NOT need to be consecutive (see chart below)
tmhl_examplej16.gif
So, bearing this in mind, is it possible for the ea to utilise some sort of look back function and identify any matching high/lows? A line could be drawn at these levels and a buy/sell triggered say by the break of the line by 10 pips? Not sure if this is feasible or not!

And taking this a bit further, it makes sense to also identify/trade dbhlc/dblhc as potential tmhl's as well by placing a pending order 10 pips above the high/low (hope this makes some sense). I have attached a chart from my demo to try and illustrate.

Hell's Bells and Buckets of Blood. Was I idiotic enough to say I was starting to like this benighted blasted EA?

What shall I do in my downtime? Cure world poverty? Ensure world peace? Arrange the colonisation of space? Single-handedly create a new species whose infants can do all of the above?

So the high low or open close or high close or open low or whatever combination appears to be the latest flavour or the month do not have to be consecutive? They can be 6 months apart? How much further? 6 years? Decades? Centuries? Millenia? Big Bangs?

And the damn tmhl code is indeed based on the hilo not openclose. If it doesn't work, then I surrender and throw it open to anyone who might actually be able to make the damn code work. Clearly, this is not me.

Lol Steve, I'm sure it wasn't your intention but you brought a smile to my face with this :lol:

I completely understand and happy for you to give it a rest for now...I'm going on holidays for 2 weeks from the end of the month, so won't be doing a great deal more between now and then anyhow.

The biggest frustration with the James16 thread at FF is that it's like finding a needle in a haystack to find the nuggets of information we can use! There are tidbits of information tucked away everywhere and only found this one on page 78 :shock: after reading about 60 pages of waffle :(

I appreciate what you have done to date and if someone else doesn't want to pick it up, so be it!
Thanks anyway for the help provided! :D

Hello everybody,

I present here my humble tweak to optionally limit open trades for a certain Symbol to either Bovb or Tmhl,
ie not to have both Bovb and Tmhl open orders when the market is flat.
This seemed to have worked for me for the last few days as I don't see this EA piling on trades anymore.

//Place the following at the top where all vars are declared:

Code: Select all

extern bool Limit1TradeOpenPerPair=true; //Limit1TradePerPair, densmod, Will not open another trade in the same direction

//Place after the last ScreenMessage:

Code: Select all

ScreenMessage = StringConcatenate(ScreenMessage, NL, Gap, "[densmod]: Limit1TradeOpenPerPair=", Limit1TradeOpenPerPair, NL); //Limit1TradePerPair, densmod
//For the remaining code, Ctrl-F to find the line that matches what I disabled, and replace with my code:
eg Find "if (Bovb.BuyOpen) SendLong" in the code.

Code: Select all

//if (Bovb.BuyOpen) SendLong = false; //Limit1TradePerPair, densmod, Disabled original
if (Limit1TradeOpenPerPair) {if ((Bovb.BuyOpen)||(Tmhl.BuyOpen)) SendLong=false;} //Limit1TradePerPair, densmod, Only 1 trade for both Bovb and Tmhl

Code: Select all

//if (Bovb.SellOpen) SendShort = false; //Limit1TradePerPair, densmod, Disabled original
if (Limit1TradeOpenPerPair) {if ((Bovb.SellOpen)||(Tmhl.SellOpen)) SendShort=false;} //Limit1TradePerPair, densmod, Only 1 trade for both Bovb and Tmhl

Code: Select all

//if (Tmhl.BuyOpen) SendLong = false; //Limit1TradePerPair, densmod, Disabled original
if (Limit1TradeOpenPerPair) {if ((Bovb.BuyOpen)||(Tmhl.BuyOpen)) SendLong=false;} //Limit1TradePerPair, densmod, Only 1 trade for both Bovb and Tmhl

Code: Select all

//if (Tmhl.SellOpen) SendShort = false; //Limit1TradePerPair, densmod, Disabled original
if (Limit1TradeOpenPerPair) {if ((Bovb.SellOpen)||(Tmhl.SellOpen)) SendShort=false;} //Limit1TradePerPair, densmod, Only 1 trade for both Bovb and Tmhl
-----
I suggest turning it on during flat markets, and turning it off when there is a strong trend. You can also leave it on if you want to. Won't do you no harm except limiting your trades.

The densmod in the code if for me to single out my code in an instant. If this is of use and subsequently added to the source, it doesn't need to be there.
If not, having it there is to help me (and you) to quickly patch over Steve's subsequent updates.

Erm, almost two years later...what has happened to the development of this EA? Does anyone know?

It seems that the method is still sound?

FXOZGirl, still using it? Steve, any ideas what is going on with it?

Cheers

If you find a thread with such a time gap since last post, it is always an answer at all your questions..
the EA was not that success and so the development has finished..

Cheers :)
