Importing Data Guide

So you have about four years of 1 minute data for each Pair in .cvs text files. How to load it in. Don't need this much but never can get enough data.
You only need the 1 minute data for each pair. That will save you time in doing the following.

1. First start up Empty4 and disconnect from your brokers server. Delete the pass word and un-check save login info. Make sure you know your password and account number though. If he does not disconnect than try logging in with out a password. That will annoy him.

2. Open up the data folder under the file menu. Open history and the name of the server you connect to. EDIT ...cut and paste the HST files into a folder on your desk top. Only the HST files. The other files are still needed. Cut and paste because you will have more data on the pairs you are unable to get new data on in the old history.

3. Exit out of Empty4. Restart Empty4. There should be no connection to the server. So you are off line.

4. Open up the history. There should not be any data in the Pair folders. Now for each Pair you have data for double click the Pair 1 minute icon and open up import. Import it to that pair. As long as it is named for the pair it does not mater if there is a .CVS or .TXT at the end as long as it is cvs data. You can use the all files choice to see all the data pairs in your new data folder.

5. Be patient this is the longest step. You will get a window after you click on import. You will open up the folder that has your data in it picking out the pair data. Hit the open button but wait to see the pair name change in the window before pressing OK. It takes about 10 seconds to happen. Do this for every pair you have data for. Do not worry about the ones you do not have it for because we will run the force history download script when we are done.

6. When you are done this task exit Empty4 and than restart. Go to file menu offline chart. Open the first pairs 1 minute data. It will be about 1.5 million bars of 1 minute data if you are able to get 4 years for instance. You do not need this much though. You would have less for say 2 years. 750000 maybe.

7. Drop the multi period converter on the chart. Watch up in the left hand corner how fast it makes all the other time periods for you. It is lightning fast. You do not want to be messing with the period converter that comes with Empty4 for this task. Do this for each pair. Edit ... Now copy the HST files you saved that you do not have new minute data on into the History folder. When done you are good to go.

8. Reset your Password and Account number. Exit restart a live login.

9. Test the charts with a template that has the popup alert turned on for not enough bars. 1 through the weekly. This one should be a 5_1440 template. You should not get any alarms except on the monthly. It does not count because it is not used in the system.

10. Run the force history download script. This time you will get a lot of failures but for a different reason. You have more data than you broker so it cannot download any more on the pairs you imported on. However it may get back more data on those old HST files you saved.

11. Last ... So I am done with force history download and I have about 1.5 million bars that need to be loaded on the 1 minute time period each time it starts. This means it can take forever. I do not need that many. Go to the tools-options-chart menu and at the bottom set max of bars on CHART to 50000. Leave the max in history alone. That is big enough to cover any average on the system. Now you do not have to load 1.5 million bars and watch the system freeze. The system will now be stable with the bars it needs. ( Actually I lowered my bars to 40000. The lower you can go and have enough bars will allow the system to be snappier. Largest average is 36288. Room to spare.

See post one for the multi period converter. Believe me this is the only one you want to use.

Cheers, :)
Doug

Greetings Traders,

I put a note at the bottom of post 1 regarding the ay-bettervolume indi. My apologies for not getting the include file to you. I forgot there even was one till I realized that the installer for 600 plus did not move the file to the new directory structure.

The other thing that I noticed is there is really no need for posting templates. I just turned on the labels for the ribbons h4 and up that can get buried underneath. Probably all we need to do unless some one really gets crazy with their colors. :D

I will be switching to Better volume 1.4 but if you are not having any problems it is up to you. It does add an average that can be helpful at highlighting increasing volume. Other than that it is the same as Barry's original indicator. You loose the greater than and less than previous 2 bars and neutral but Barry did not have that in the original indicator.

Cheers, :)

Hey Doug!

Feel free to ditch this if you feel it isn't of any value.....

Your teachings on volume reminded me of an indicator I have in my vast stores.....

Swing volume. It basically shows the volume of each directional swing.

I think original credit for this goes to David Weiss - a Wyckoff trader.

There may [or may not] be something worth looking at here.

Bearing in mind Wyckoff's rule of "effort versus result," instead of analysing individual bars in the context of surrounding bars, you should analyse the waves, in the context of surrounding waves.

The most interesting thing I've observed is looking at the way the balance of volume changes.

For example, on the attached chart, you can see where price reaches it's highest point [which also happens to be the edge of the H4 Gann Ribbon], the balance of swing volume changes.

Instead of having up swings [green] which are larger than the downswings [red], the situation reverses and we see the downswings become larger and more sustained than the upswings............

You can see that at the very peak, the total volume for the swing is much lower than the previous pushes upwards - think of this in terms of effort versus results - quite a strong push up, but not much volume......

Would be interested in your feedback.

Cheers,

Rob

Rob,

I think that is a neat little indicator. I look at it before but not in association with the Gann Ribbons. I have it in my indicator folder. Thanks for reminding me. It is a very interesting concept especially with how price responds to Ribbons. I will spend some time looking at it today.

Cheers, :)

Wow,

What a quiet day in the Forex world. Just looking at some ranges today. AUDUSD 37 pips high to low, Volatile EURAUD 44, EURNZD only 47, EURUSD 25, NZDUSD 29, USDJPY 33, GBPJPY and GBPNZD, exceptions in the 80s but just abysmal trading conditions even for scalping. I have a couple of daily trades running so that is one nice thing about trading the Daily time like this do not phase you much.

The Dow Jones almost ready to break 17000 up 112 % at 16995 ... a record high for both DJ and the S&P 500. Of course there is the Ukraine and Putin situation causing a few jitters in eastern Europe.

Cheers, :)

I can not get the indicator to work in version 646 of Empty4. Will compile. There were a couple of warning I fixed... . Worked fine in 509. What version of metacraps Empty4 are you using.

EDIT ... I went back and downloaded the original source file on FF and did not run it through the compiler and now it works. There is also something going on with Administrative rights in windows and this new Empty4 file structure. I have set Empty4 to so I run it as administrator. Yes it is a nice little indicator.

Cheers, :)

Well low volatility finally broke me down and I decided to do a 1 minute scalping system. It is highly experimental. But you can read about it on the following page where there is a bundle posted.

The following URL points to a page where I have a description of a 1 minute trading system along with charts posted and a bundle. It is highly experimental at this point. There will be more refinement but trading the 1 minute is a matter of judgement.

Trade ...
So many hours ago I took this trade on one of my favorite pairs EURAUD. I have lived with it a long time. It was on the 30 minute time period. I will explain further after first showing you the entry chart.
euraudmm30.png
The advantage to having the ribbons is that they actually follow their own laws. This gives you more freedom in trading. Below I was able to stay with this pair even though the stochastic would have told me to get out. Price retests the the dome like curving 30 minute ribbon and is unable to break resistance. Price tries to penetrate the hourly ribbon and finally does do that as the pair widens forming a wider triangle like appearance. Knowing the laws of the ribbons allows you to stay with a trade when otherwise you might give up. However now it is Friday afternoon and liquidity and momentum is leaving the market. So it is time to take some profit.
