Ok, moving forward (in a noob style) the way I see it is that all set files must be different for each pair based on some form of relative pip-value calculation. My grasp of maths is rocky to say the least, but the combination of max trades * spread creates a break even cost. To simplify, there is a base cost to having your max trades open, this cost varies pair to pair because of the different spreads

i.e.

On EURUSD with a lot size of 1.00 & given a 2 point spread and 10 max trades your breakeven cost (BE) is roughly 100

so, therefore to be profitable, your cash profit target must always equal at least your BE, and you can determine then whether your BE is hit via your "pips between trades" level.

Given the proper level and correct set file calculation this EA could be a work of genius! (or fail miserably given the nefarious activites of the crims!)

I'm running some backtest now to determine if my hypothesis is correct and will post some results as i get them!

By the by, someone earlier mentioned a red label FF news release.

Two or three years ago, when Scoobs first burst into our lives and in what feels like a previous incarnation, we tried to use Fcal to help avoid trading around news releases.

Basically, it does not work. FF news calender is unreliable: it mis-labels events; it misses important releases. Given what we now know but did not know then, that FF is owned by the crims this is not a surprise.

There is no way of coding for the release of a major news event that we know of at this point in time.

Not that they matter these days. Even that original source of terror, NFP, raises barely a flicker. 6 months from now, who knows? But for now, they are a non-event.

Which is not to say we should not try to catch them when news causes a half-way decent spike (the best we can hope for these days), but not in the 'normal' way of trying to jump onto the spike as it happens. Nope, when a ludicrous spike happens, watch it for a few minutes and then jump in hoping to catch the reversal.

This kind-of implies that this EA is not for always-in, unmonitored trading. Anyone surprised by this has not been reading the first posts in my threads properly. Or at all.

My intention when I mentioned the red news module was to allow the EA to activate a few minutes AFTER the news release, in order to avoid the initial spikes and take advantage of the movement that anyway follows the news.
I didn´t know FF is owned by the crooks. Thanks for the tip.

I've tried running this Ea on a Renko chart, which establishes a trend, but no success, any ideas on what inputs I should be looking at??

also any idea on which chart interval might work the best regular or renko??

I had a very productive bath-loll this morning - then I followed it up with a sofa-loll.

I am new to Gertje's idea, so I may be wrong, but what I feel is this: this EA is best used when we have a reason to enter a trade that we have determined manually. I do not see it as a true auto-trader.

this is also a great EA, i'm very scared though of letting this run live. i've attached some of my results on demo and cant'tell yet if this is in profit or loss as i'm running about 50 charts on 4 comps right now and the account history is constantly updating and i lose the positions befor ei can get there. i know you can still get them , but hell, that horse again.

i was wondering if anyone had a good set i can try as i can't seem to nail this one.

i can report that it's best NOT to interfere when you THINk the market is going to turn, hehe , i tried, it does'nt work here. i also dont use fcal as Steve has noted to us that it's cr.p that comes outta there and anyways, any change of direction, however strong or weak, happens quite a while before it hits bloomberg or especially fcal. With Gertje, it does'nt matter.

Please help here someone, i like this Gertje bliksem, but i cant get a handle on him.

from what I have learned playing with this toy, your setfile will be determined by your available balance, pair spread and your leverage, for example I have a micro account of $25k with a 500:1 leverage and can successfully use these settings:

pair: eurusd
lotsize: 0.1
cash profit target: 115
pipsbetweentrades: 25
no of trades: 100

this set so far (that has passed a 99% Backtest since 2007 and a 90% Backtest since 1999 - whatever that's worth) I have this running live (for pennies), i wouldn't recommend that you do - and i recommend you do your own testing. immediate problems i can see are:

1) when brokers widen spreads
2) random Empty4 'trade context busy' errors (that i get even in demo) that will leave you unhedged
3) other various Empty4 issues - i.e. I use FXOpen and i think they enforce a 'max trades' policy i.e. you can only have 25 trades open at one time - (i have an idea about how we can get round this) More to follow...

Vanilla Gertje doing really well.......I have a TP of a buck and it's averaging about 4 of them a day...I only have 4 pairs loaded but I'm going to add 2 more and see if I can break into the big money.....The bot is a very high score on the Fun-O-Meter and a lot of entertainment.....
