Upcoming Empty4 4 and MQL4 Upgrades

To open mq4 file in another program besides metaeditor

1, Right click and select Open With
2. Besides showing Metaeditor, there should be another option to 'Select Program'
3. Click Select program and a list of all potential programs that can open an mql file will display
4. Click Notepad (be careful not to select Word or Wordpad as these programs often change the formatting and can effect the coding)
5. Be careful to uncheck the box that says to make Notepad the default program to open mql files

Thanks Shelley, but that is exactly what I did. It's what I was referring to when I said "Even on browsing". Notepad does not come up as one of the available programs. I am on Windows 7.

To open in notepad simply open your notepad application and drag and drop the ea or indicator onto the notepad window and it will open up for you.

Empty4 build600+ may give errors when trying to compile mql4 files which does not fit the new mql4 syntax requirements.

Workaround: Compile the files with the build 509 editor and copy the generated .ex4 (NOT the mq4!) file to the proper directory of your Empty4 build600+

Attached you'll find the compiler. It is the same archive I have uploaded at forexfactory some time ago, so if you already downloaded it there you do not need to download it again ... :hi:

On August 1, 2014, Empty4 4 client terminals older than build 600 will become obsolete won’t be able to trade. Client terminals running build 600 or higher will be able to continue to trade after August 1, 2014.

Then, on September 1, 2014, Empty4 4 client terminals older than build 610 will become obsolete and also won’t be able to trade. Client terminals running build 610 or higher will be able to continue to trade after September 1, 2014.

I'll stay with 509, not because it's good but just saving my time.
The forced update all good for the Empty4 company(store,signals,VPS) ,almost nothing good for coders and users(need learn unimportant new stuff, spend time to update for nothing but for Empty4 company).

Many Thanks.
I have already backed up all 509 folders, ready to go.
I think should put /portable inside the shourcut script first before Empty4 update, in this way everything should go smoothly, need not change anything(I don't think I need delete .mq4 source files in expert and indicator folders , because .EX4 files already there, Empty4 terminal should notice that).
