important......just got this from a coder i know...."Metaquotes (the publisher and developer of Empty4 4) just released a new build, 418. Unfortunately, they decided to change the main logic behind Empty4 4's programming language, without notifying any of the developers'................so be careful of any update especially 416 to 418..it just might cause you ea's and indicators to not work any more.

Nice one. You will see via pm that I acted on this information the instant I read it.

You need to disable the live update in Empty4.

Look under the main Empty4 file and in the following, config> UpdatePlatform.exe you can just add a - after the exe like this.

UpdatePlatform.exe-

and it will stop the auto update from working. My Empty4 is Cowboy IBFX and it looks like some of the brokers have changed the way Empty4 is installed , another brokers might be different.
I believe the file use to be liveupdate.exe

I have accounts with 6 brokers and Alpari UK is the only one I still can use build 225.
All other brokers, after the weekend March 10-11 did not fire up without updating.
100% sure that was something important for them.

Always keep a copy of those old versions. Specially from the better criminals.

In the main directory, I disable mine by changing the file name from LiveUpdate to LiveUpdateOff

Stuff like this makes me so angry. We used to have problems like this with the main software for my day job (recording engineer) whereby the makers of Pro Tools simply put the end user requirements way down the list of priorities and refused to include industry standard features unless the five thousand quid version was bought. We finally got pro tools sorted after a torrent of demands from end users over a number of years. Do you guys think it would help if we created a thread on the MQL4 forem outlining exactly what we want from them? Eg. A new version MT6 with the following features: 1) comparable with mql4 AND mql5 languages. 2)proper tick data back testing without the faf

Hi Jeuro, with both my live Empty4 I have another Live update entry which is 'Live Update.New' NEW File 214 Kb below the 'Live Update' entry. Do I mess with this as well or just change the smaller application file.

I am a bit confused as the demo's don't have this file.

Any help much appreciated.

I use a stacking distance of 2*spread +1 [17pips for a 3pip spread], so normally the 3th or 4th trade can deliver the profit.

The main catch will as always be the downdraft. If things are going wrong, and one ends up with say 5 longs en 5 shorts, the DD will be 5 * 5 * stackingdistance so in my case 5 * 5 * 17 = 425 pips

can you clarify about your stacking distance? You said 2*spread+1. The math doesn't add up (your example 3 spread * 2 + 1 does not equal 17). Unless I'm reading something wrong here. Also, could backtesting be useful to find the optimal settings per currency?

I continue to find this EA fascinating and very likely profitable if used correctly. Great idea!

I use pip step 26 on AUDUSD only. The best setting I found from testing it for 2 weeks now.
TP : $20 0n 0.2 lots.

2k account grew by 19% in 7 trading days. 11.2% max drawdown. Normally have 2 - 3 closed trades per day.

This way you only need to have 1 - 2 extra trade in either direction against the opposite open trades.

So, let say at the open you have the 2 hedged trades open at the same time, you will need only 1 extra trade to close the profit. This is one of the best EA I have ever seen.

If you get in to trouble by the ranging market and let say you have 4 open trades per side (Have not happened to me so far) then you can just wait until the price comes back to the middle section and close all trades with a small loss, and start again fresh. as I said this has not happened to me yet but in theory can happen. But solution is easy.

I am happy with Gertje so far. Running it on a small LIVE account with Cowboy Go Markets. Do not bother running this on Cowboy IBFX AU, for some reason only one side of the grid opens most of the time, so it just does not work with Cowboy IBFX.
OK on Alpari UK and Cowboy Go Markets.

PS: Backtest does not work properly. Don't waste your time. Result is completely different to live test.

I have done the test on the AUDUSD pair I am running and the LIVE demo result was 19% versus the backtest 4% only. Same pair same settings same time frame and same number of trading days, but wastly different results. I checked the backtest in visual mode to see why the difference and noticed that in backtest the grids are not opening asap as soon as the TP reached, so the account is running with no grid setup and no trades for days, then suddenly the grid appears again. So not reliable at all. But backtest gives you tremendous results in a 1 year test, but imagine the actual result being 5 times better than that.
That is what I found.
