Actually I believe the biggest loss comes if you close in the middle... This is where almost all your orders are at a loss, aside from the first two. You would want to close at either extreme. When the final buy or sell order is placed I think that's when all positions should close at a loss of only overhead costs.

Hi all,
thought to share something interesting with you about Gertje.

i have unfortunately, only used on markets.com criminal. There is definately a difference between brokers, but i did'nt put Gertje on others. too many charts right now, but this is what my final chart looked like. please note the EUR/USD pair, all were losses, very strange, i tried a full lot point and a smaller 0.01, bu8t no difference obviously. then on GBP, i get a much better result, overall, i'm still losing, but you can see if you play with the settings on gertje, you just might be able to get the perfect result. wins are the smaller one's , but when i lost, i lost solidly, hehe.

i did'nt run this on it's own on myfxbook, and i'm battling to get my markets.com crim 's loaded on to the myfxbook page. this way you could search for the results and play around with the graphs and also you would see blah blah, you know how to use myfxbook.

enjoy and hope this gertje flies, it's a damn good idea.
regards
cuzgeorge

edit: i never closed any of the positions, and let gertje run on his own, i might have changed TF's but not for long, but 30m was standard for gertje. hope this info helps all.

Or at final order - 1 (19 in a 20 level grid of 10 buys and 10 sells) when the bot would otherwise send the final trade.

This is something I intend coding at some point.

Read the effing manual, ok?

Afterprime is the official SHF broker. Read about them at https://www.stevehopwoodforex.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?p=175790#p175790.

I still suffer from OCCD. Good thing, really.

Anyone here feeling generous? My paypal account is always in the market for a tiny donation. pianodoodler@hotmail.com is the account.

TehCount,

You are 100% right. That is the time, when you need to close. But as I said, it can be done. The market will move either way.
I will countinue to test different pairs for the ideal settings.

Steve,

That would be an awsome feature. :P
If you can code this in to the EA, then this EA will be unbeatable.

I would probably have the same feature at the lower lever though like 5 buys and 5 sells as well. User selectable. maybe one at level 5 and one at the levels you suggested. Just an idea. That would suit traders with smaller accounts.
Personally I would not let the EA to rack up 10 buys and sells at the same time. You run low on margins then. If you have a 10K account with small lot size, then the 10 buys and 10 sells target is OK and no issue.

The key to this EA is to find the right pip step and the corresponding lot size to your account balance.
This will make constant profit for you. I think this is one of the best EAs around. Worthy of fine tuning it to perfection.

Cuzgeorge,

Please let us know your setings. I would like to see it.

Are you using Gertje or Gertje Plus

Something is drasticly wrong there. You should not have any basket closed with an overall loss, unless you set your TP target too small and by the time the broker closes your orders it can go to negative especially on large lot sizes, like you have there. It is impossible to be in a negative closed Balance position with this EA. DD can happen, but that is another issue. Your balance should keep growing by every closed basket.

Here are my results for Gertje for the last 7 trading days.

The profit level could be much higher, because I started initially with 0.1 lots and found that it can easily accomodate a larger lot size, so changed it to 0.2.
Never the less, 19% profit in 7 trading days is very impressive on a small account like this.

Here's another one with some adjustments in the set file. I want to focus on keeping the drawdown below 10%. Many pairs with smaller lot sizes and smaller max trades.

UPDATE: Killed, dollar target was too high ($10) and many pairs were reaching maxtrades.

Steve,

I hope this helps you with the quest to add that function to the EA.

I am running GBPJPY :
Pips between trades: 26
Lot size is : 0.3
Cash profit target is $45
Account size is $2000

I was visually watching the EA turning a negative profit level to positive. This is the point we are looking to minimize loss and close all trades when we have too many open trades on each side as you mentioned.

In this case : I had the 2 initial buy and sell trades open + 1 extra buy trades
on the other side I had the original sell trade from the opening + 3 extra sell trades. The DD turned to $0 almost at the time the EA was just about to open the fifth trade. A couple of pips away from opening the fifth.
Maybe the way to do it is to monitor equity level and if we have a certain number of trades already open on both sides, the EA will close off all trades at the $0 point. This way we clean the table and start again.
I am sure this situation will hardly ever happen, but just in case.

So in summary I had 2 x buy and 4 x sell trades just about to open the fifth, when the DD turned to $0.
