Hey, ACS
Xmess7 understanding is correct and comprehensive.
There are three points in the original post need to understand clearly:
1. London stock market opened at 8:00 local time, while the Forex market opening is 9:00
2. London and GMT offset is 0, but London DST is GMT + 1
3. Time conversion should be used with the GMT offset value

1. What time should I set BrokerGMTOffset at?
2. What should I set LondonOpentime at?
I think a few examples would clear things up.
Thanks.

Hi, all
In fact, Recently I was doing a thing, is how to solve the problem of time setting. Ready to write an indicator to test a variety of different time settings and combinations impact on profits.
Regardless of London opening time is 8:00 or 9:00, open trading hours is 1 hour or 2 hours after the London opening, close the trading time is 23 hours or less later.
Used to determine the direction of the trade candles can be 1 candle or a combination of more candles.
Depending on your needs, if you complete all the time settings, This indicator will read the opening time, the transaction direction, order opening price, order off the price, and calculate the profit or loss of each order.
All data read will stored at the terminal directory MQL4\files\ with ".csv" File Format.
Individually finished testing a variety of different pairs and different brokers and Empty4 platform,Then excel open ".csv" file, after simple editing, you can analyze the profitability of the various settings combinations.
Then the most profitable combination of settings applied to the EA, will greatly improve the speed and accuracy of our test EA......

Set BrokerGMTOffset=0;
LondonOpentime is London forex market opening time 9:00(also 8:00).

Data list(olny profit 230pip in 2014.05.20----2014.08.25)

Of course, this indicator does not accurately reflect the true profitability. Because between the open and closed orders, prices may hit the stop and profit settings. Therefore, the indicator reflects only a static situation, but will also give us great help.

@acs My bad. I had the wrong GMToffset. I think my GMT open time is 6 (not 10). I say I think cause I don't know if I am subtracting the DSToffset correctly. I'll show a graph later on when Tuesday comes around so we can compare. I am about 1hr earlier than you when I compare the actual candles. Like I said I think I set my GMToffset and didn't consider the DSToffset.
Folks:
One thing to note is that the input variable called LondonOpenTime is in terms of GMT Time. The timing deal in the EA is really driven purely by GMT time. So keep that in mind. Think GMT all the way.
Oh another thing to keep in mind. The GMToffset is the offset from your brokers time to GMT. It can be easy to confuse it with your local time.
more to come...

Good to see we are starting to think out of the box. Once we get this EA working without any futher doubts then I will porpose some approaches based on probabilities.zhengzuodong » Mon Aug 25, 2014 9:14 am wrote:Of course, this indicator does not accurately reflect the true profitability. The one that comes to mind is a the TRO Buzzard trade. How many times do we see a combination of 4 candles where the first 3 are of the same color and the 4th is of a different color? This is just an example. What I am suggesting is to look for events that aren't neccessarily price driven and come up with a countable quantity and see what kind of probabilites we get. Then pick the best probability and forward test it. Like I said this takes out of the box observations. Stuff that doesn't necessarily depend on tradional observations lije: price, buyers/sellers, resistance/support, volume, etc.
Food for some thought....

zhengzudong,
many thanks for the EA. looks to have potential.
you said that london stock market opens at 8am but forex opens at 9am. are you sure? i cant seem to find any other source that states this. every source i read seems to think london forex open is 8am (8am BST - ie gmt+1) / 7am GMT
eg:
#3 on this list:
http://www.tradersbulletin.co.uk/six-da ... -and-traps
also see the table here:
http://www.forexfactory.com/showthread. ... ost3690977
sorry if this contributes to the noise. ultimately we will go with whatever setting works, and you seem to be on overall winners.
trader
EDIT: also can you also share your risk settings from the demo you have in your screenshots? thanks
