Quick update to my strategy this year of trading Daily HGI signals. It went through several changes, but for the last four months I've been trading Daily Blue Wave, Big Trend Arrow and Rad arrows on 12 pairs. I have no SL, TP for each trade is 200% of daily ATR(365).
Hi Cozybooks, You mentioned you don't use a SL. What do you do to protect your account? A large emergency stop, repairing trades as described by Alorente in the Extreme TMA thread, or do you just let it go and hope for the best? I'd be very interested to hear your opinion on this.

Hi Cozybooks,

It is nice to see someone else that has not given up on Hgi. :good: To this day, I use HGI based on the daily signals for my manual trading. I use The blue wavy trend and Hgi trend arrows for my entry and use monthly support and resistance as an extra filter for my entry.

Having said, I have now also incorporated the non repainting TMA as an extra tool. Thanks for this. It will certainly help in catching RAD signals as well.

All the best.
Leon

Just a quick note to Spudfan. If you use stoplosses then please be my guest and do so ;) . I don't and I think most on this forum do not bother with stoplosses. I used to, and it slowly depleted my profits. For me it is the overall basket that matters.
This why Nanningbob always use to say. Trade small and my favourite trading quote - "Trade to trade another day"
Cheers.

Thanks Leon.

Even if one trades small, a trade that heads for the hills can grow a significant negative equity. And if there is also a negative swap, even worse. I have one such that dates from September 2014 (currently 1900 pips negative), but luckily the swap is positive. In this case I just waved it goodbye and one day, if I live long enough, it might come back to reasonable levels and I can close it. But what if that happens a few more times, 10 times, 20 times? Eventually, over time, that must happen and half your tradable equity can end up frozen in such trades, or simply overwhelm your entire account. That's the bit about not using stops that I can't get my head around. I would be really grateful if you and others who do not use SLs could comment on this. Thanks.

Hi Spudfan,

I do not want to debate much on this subject but here is what I can say.
- Have faith in your strategy, trading Hgi on the daily timeframe is an edge more so if you trade it with filters like Cozybook's Tma. I use monthly pivots and yearly pivots, forgot to mention it this morning and oh yes, sixths on the hourly timeframe 1682 candles ago. This is for my manual trading.

- Diversify your trading. If you look at Slopey Peaky Bob, it is doing exceptionally well. The ea may get it wrong with some currency pairs but the others come to the fore. Touch wood. I hope this good run lasts. 8-) This, I hope will eventually take over my manual trading.

So yes, I do take losses but when my overall basket is in profit.

I have not been in a situation trading Hgi where I got 28 pairs wrong. You may get some pairs wrong but the majority of trades eventually go into profit. You have to be absolutely patient and more so trade small so that your margin percentage level does not drop too low. I still use Rene's Hgi matrix up to this day to home in on trades.

I trust I have answered your question, You need to find your comfort zone. We are all different traders. ;)

All the best mate.
Cheers
Leon

Hi Leon, very useful comments, as usual. In the case of my question I wasn't really after input on general strategy but more of a specific and technical issue - you don't use SLs, so what happens when a trade heads the wrong way and keeps on going? Surely you have some of those? And surely you have accumulated more than one like that? What will happen if you get more and more of them?

It’s not that we don’t take losses is we don’t close out trades early unless they prove to be losers. Usually trend is clearly changed or a major support or resistance is broken. Usually losses are caused by a news story and you understand the change. CSS will tell you things have changed by the angles of the line. Need to know that Indy which HGI is based on.

We decided to move Leon's post and the subsequent ones to his own thread, was to avoid dilution of his ideas by others that might crop up, with the subsequent confusion that might ensue.

This thread is open for business as usual. Bob welcomes imaginative use of HGI now as much as he ever did, so don't stop posting guys.

To slightly confused noobs: Wavegarrick (Leon) is one of SHF's leading trading thinkers. You will find his thread at http://www.stevehopwoodforex.com/phpBB3 ... 18#p163218

Leon's is a classic example of how to use HGI in conjunction with other thingies. You are reading this because you have seen the value of HGI, so continue to read and post here.

Hi Guys,

is it possible to set the HGI so as it will check the signal after each one minute candle? I know that there is update second delay on HGI, but this as far as I know is delay of the signal itself, but I want to get readings after each one minute candle. Will be grateful for help.

Thanks,

Blazej

This post earned this poster a one way ticket to the On Moderation group. Members of this august group can do bugger all here without a mod's permission, and said permission can only be earned by posting intelligently so many times that they prove not to be an idiot. They are unlikely to achieve this.

blazej, you are one more attempted post away from a ban from SHF. I suggest you stay quiet.

I remind folks here that HGI is a here-and-now indi. Only an idiot fails to grasp this. Those of us using it slightly differently in our EA's know what we are doing.
