Today is Monday.
Courtesy of Shrek, my Monday kids missed their lesson the week of the show so they have a 'catch up' lesson this coming Wednesday, This is of no great significance apart from my Monday kids being my favourites (yes, I know - should not have favs but I am human and cannot help it).
So I did not worry too much when bestie Chloe did not turn up at her appointed time of 1.10. She has a lesson on Wednesday and I can always tuck her in somewhere else. I would have got Miss to send out a call for her but Miss was nowhere to be found.
Cade turned up at 1.30 so I asked, "Is Chloe not in school today?"
"Yes she is."
"She missed her lesson at 1.10."
"Her lesson is at 1.50."
Just to keep you all up to speed on who was saying what I replied, "No it wasn't. It was at 1.10."
"No. It is at 1.50. I looked at the timetable and told Chloe that it is at 1.50."
We all know how often this blasted timetable confuses me, so I showed her mine with trepidation in my heart. For about the first time ever, I was correct. Chloe's lesson was supposed to have been at 1.10.
An aghast Cade exclaimed, "I misread the timetable and told Chloe the wrong time." Nothing to be done so we continued with the lesson.
Half way through, Chloe appeared. Chloe loves her lessons. I love Chloe. I asked Cade (love her as well), "Who is going to tell her? You or me?" Cade took over, told the story and Chloe's face fell.
Then Cade said, "It is my fault so Chloe can have the rest of the lesson."
Chloe brightened and then asked, "Can Cade stay for the rest of it?"
I replied harshly, "No, She is a disruptive pain."
Both the girls faces fall and I instantly felt like some sort of monster. Honestly, a kid who does not meet me and instantly work out how to wrap me around his/hers little finger is sadly lacking in brain power.
I glared at Cade and said, "OK darling you can stay but you must stay quiet of I will never allow you again." Yeah, right. She did though. All of 10 minutes.
Come the end I said to Cade, "Angel, you have been quiet for 10 whole minutes. It must have been hard."
"It was," followed by a mock sniff.
Chloe chimed in with, "She has never been so quiet for so long before."
I can imagine.
