How to catch price peaks ?

Post by jankownacki »

Hi,

maybe some one of You will be able to help me here.
catch-peak.png
I`m trying to find a solution to close my trades at the moment mentioned on the picture. Is there any indicator or some other way to recognize the moment when price will start going down after strong movement ?

I read on that forum many topics about closing trades and I see that many people using values from ATR indicator as potential stop loss. Does any could advice here or share some experiences with SL from ATR ?

Thanks in advance for any hint

Cheers

Jan

How to catch price peaks ?

An ATR trailing stop is easy to implement, you just need it to update fast enough that you can capture the move. not sure on the time frame of your chart but that will play a role in if your broker gets pissed with moving the stop all the time.

you'd need to be aware that after the spike, the ATR will increase and so the second exit may not be where you expect. A trade management EA should be easily found/programmed to handle a trailing stop of your choice... How are you defining the exit point?

Hi,

thanks for Your feedback.

I`m trading on the 1H and 4H.
Usually 4h I`m using to detect direction of the trend and 1h to open or close positions - everything is implemented in my EA.

Since weeks I`m trying to find an answer - when to close the trade at the best moment. I tasted many different indicators but most of them providing insufficient information`s. As I see now, one of the best indicators to catch the peak (automatic) is simply stochastic. I tested today ATR but its not this what I`m looking for. I will stay with Stoch.

Once stochastic is cross, I`m closing the trade. A specialy on the higher timeframes 1h/4h. Usually afterwards (once stochastic crossed) price is changing direction for a short time (next 1-5candles) before it will continue the movement, at this moment I would like to be out from the trade.

Just take a look on that catch - only 12 pips from the bottom.

Work it out for yourself. You have not even posted your EA so that The Brains here can have a look and see if they can offer any help.

Asking something for nothing is not a strategy for survival here at SHF.

Read the effing manual, ok?

I still suffer from OCCD. Good thing, really.
