Secret Bob's Basket

EA's inspired by nanningbob's work here, especially those based on his 240 Moving Average trend detection filter.

Tell you what guys, I would not like to be a noob approaching this monster for the first time - and my response to some of the questions they want to ask helps me but probably does bugger-all for them.

I spend far less time testing than I do coding. There are guys here who have tested this beast far more than I have. Can one of you come up with a time frame and set file that I can put into post 1 and say to the noobs, "Try this to get started guys"?

 awesome work. Thank you for your efforts!

I'm guessing we will get a set file together by the end of the week (probably Gertje the testing King :D )

You are right though. Even the first edition had a ton of settings

Secret Bob seemed to work for me last week, up 900+ pips on the 30 min.

Setfile attached, FWIW.

Read the effing manual, ok?

I still suffer from OCCD. Good thing, really.

And one final update for the weekend in response to webby's post at http://www.stevehopwoodforex.com/phpBB3 ... 59#p104059. This reminded me that I promised some idiot checks for the Friday/Saturday close hour thingy.

No guarantee that someone here will not come up with a method of breaking the checks, but that is the fault of the dimwit who manages to find the relevant combo to achieve this. It will be an achievement, of sorts.

No more updates this weekend, I promise. I will spew if I am forced to look at another line of code for at least 24 hours. I am sick of the stuff.

Steve last two days been testing Stochy Bob and like SSB when its rolling its brilliant but when it gets out of sync with PA its not so glamorous.

An idea.....................If we combined the two SSB and Stochy Bob we could select the best times to trade the secret bob signals, would be much more effectively imo. Others here and yourself may have better ideas how than I, but based on my studies of these two EA's and Bob original work here's an idea to look at. It is just one approach of many but gets the point across of these two good EAs coming together to form something really special.

Normal SSB set-up Trend Trade only w/ or w/out 240MA filter
Enter with: secret bob signal
and
Stochy entry entry level hit within (X) candles of secret bob signal or at arbitrary level sloped towards trade, Stoch TF is next TF up or higher from trading TF, stoch setting 2-1-1. (Probably a programing preference)

Exit normal SSB approaches or a stoch level or cross

There is potential to better nail the CT trades too with the stoch filter but I'd rather leave that for testing rather than speculate.

Even more exciting is to be able to have two fast Stoch upper TF filters, this is really closely mirroring what Bob is actually doing in his trading, and if you put this on a chart and visual backtest you see that a lot of trading would cease in the retraces or ranging PA that is causing current DD burden. Imagine SSB rumbling along with small DD!

I can imagine how busy you are Steve so this is an offer of an idea nothing more. This family of EA's is worth the effort, and well done on this so far.

Here's an example chart of above
Hi Pacinvest

Would you mind posting your MTF Stochy indicator so we can start testing?

Steve...an unbelievable amount of coding over the weekend. Thank you

Kind regards Richard

I am happy to share the MTFstoch indy I use but it comes with a warning which the veterans here can ignore as they already understand this stuff. I did mention that when the indy displays the higher time frame value it is repainting. What it actually is doing is pivoting from the last value calculated on the TF it is set to calculate values from.

As Bob states in the 10.7 pages this is what it is. It's value set at 2-1-1 is as an early warning of change of trend. With his indicator in 10.7 we watched the fast higher TF stoch wobble early in the week or early in the day and this disturbed people but actually it is simply stating that the trend is not yet well determined. At times my indy does this as well.

What I have been trying to do with SSB is simply adapt the 10.7 use of higher TF stoch trend confirmation.

Steve has been generous with his time to allow us to experiment with higher TF stoch triggers but please don't see this as a silver bullet. If you understand Bob's 10.7 use of higher TF then cool experiment as I am doing otherwise leave it alone or go back and study 10.7 and the stoch indi there first.

What I am most interested in here is filtering Secret Bob's trend entry signal with the confirmation of trend continuation from the fast stoch two TF's up from the trading timeframe. We are aiming to not enter when PA changes to ranging or reversal. In 10.7 Bob established this as a valid filter for trend entries.

So for this week I am working on SSB and the stoch settings Steve has provided.

Hi Pacinvest,

Thanks for the indicator, just a quick question, why not using Bob standard 10.7 indicators?

Cheers,

I do its really just a different display and personal preference around that that's all.

What's important here is what Steve is using in the EA which I presume is a call on standard stoch values. As always getting an EA to do what a brain can do is the trick...............
