I have no idea which is the better product but I am currently using this one. None the less, I will install Anti-Beacon and observe for comparison.

Good ole MS. nearly as good as crapty4 for undocumented features.

You think that's bad... Try putting your machine n Hibernate mode over the weekend... The bastard will wake up in the middle of the night, look for updates, then shut down afterwards, losing the last state that the progs were in, so you have to re-start them on reboot...

Both problems can be prevented, though... I just forgot where I saw how to... Google is you friend (well, he pretends to be, anyways).

Just found this hint on how to disable automatic reboot after updates. See step 2. I just hope it helps! Any other thoughts or experiences related to this disaster (specifically for the Home edition since that is what we get bundled nowadays)?

I can't find the post from earlier but I actually DID try Windows 10. I had eventually came to the conclusion that I could actually be wrong about this version of software and was liking it very much. I had patched it and disabled all the telemetry/tracking nonsense and it was working quite well as my main trading station until Thursday night.

When I arrived at my office on Friday morning preparing to trade the best day of the month I found that I couldn't use any of my Windows 10 systems. Microsoft pushed an update that crashed the machines outright because of incompatible drivers forced on my system. In a panic I quickly went to re-install Windows 7 to get back up and running. That was a failure. Microsoft wouldn't permit me to downgrade. After several hours of fooling with recovery solutions (linux doesn't work with Windows 10 disk recovery) I finally managed to get a session up long enough to get my MT4s off both machines on to my SAN.

I spent the remainder of the day converting these machines to Ubuntu Linux with VirtualBox which lets me run Windows XP, Empty4, NinjaTrader and any other Windows software I still need. And I don't have someone forcing me to update a computer without my permission.

As an aside, it may be worth investigating using Linux as both Wall St and London have started moving to it for exchanges and trading platforms. I myself would love to use Python language as a trading platform. It's far superior to everything else out there when it comes to algo and quant use. And it's extremely easy to learn. I hear they are teaching it in grade schools now.

I had a similar problem to DC, albeit without the same disastrous consequences.

We would be ever so grateful for suggestions to help us stop the Morons at Microsoft overcoming our update settings. Ok, so maybe a VPS for live EA trading, but that is not the point.

You might not want to use Windows 10 if you're old-fashioned and don't want to share your
trading passwords with Microsoft: when you click on "I Accept" to Win10 they take it to mean
that you agree your account information, and passwords, and password hints, can sent to them:

Those updates may have been to update their copy of your password collection

Note well that this will apply to a Windows 10 running in a VirtualBox as well. I have run
XP and Windows7 in a VirtualBox under Linux, but would want to really test the firewall
on the box before I trusted it, especially >= Win7.

Metatrader4 runs fine under Linux Wine, with only a couple of superficial visual glitches;
I've used it for more that 5 years without any problems.

Which Wine version are you using? I had a problem with multiple monitor support. Linux doesn't like to have more than one GPU on the system and my trading station has 6 monitors.

When I ran it under Ubuntu's Wine it was hammering the CPU at 70%+ without any indicators. Virtualbox didn't prove to be any less resource intensive. Not sure why.
