Super Newbie questions

Hello all
I'm live trader, and totally ignorant on Empty4 programming, nevertheless, I've managed to modify some indicators, with this "success" I've faced the task of making my own EA. I need a guideline on "how to"
I know Ea consist on 3 parts first with "extern", second is "init" (here is where I'm lost), and "start"
I've made an ea, compiled with no errors but in live chart shows a frown face, my question are why the frown face? what Empty4 needs to recognize an ea? and what goes on init?
I'll apreciate any hint

You have over simplified the situation - an EA contains many parts and sections, subroutines and other sections of code. Suggest you continue your coding journey with a trip to http://docs.mql4.com/ where all will be revealed.

Specifically the "extern" you refer to is not really a part but rather a reference to how the variable is used by the EA. extern = external and is used when the variable is to be made available to the user who can change the value when loading the EA.

"init()" defines a subroutine within the EA that is run once to initialise the EA. Any code here will be executed and then control of the program is passed to "start()".
